Another First
The day was so warm that I thought it would be fun to take Ethan into the pool with me. With that in mind, I went out and bought little vinyl pants to go over his diaper and an infant raft for his to sit in..... well the vinyl pants don't seem to have tight enough (his diaper was soaked afterward) and he wanted nothing to do with his little raft- he wanted to be held. Oh well. It's just as well because although the day was plenty warm (high of mid 80s), the pool was surprisingly frigid. I hesitated to take him in, but I'd just spent 10 minutes skimming the pool of debris and 2hrs buying his pants and floaty thing. So I decided to give it a try.
Holding him against my chest, Ethan and I went into the 3ft-deep end and I started walking back and forth. The water came to the top of his little vinyl pants and he didn't seem too cold. I kept us moving and kept aware of his body temperature the entire time. Although his upper half (including cheeks and nose) remained typically warm, after about 10-15 minutes of walking back and forth, I dedided that was enough and we got out. I immediately swaddled him in a fluffy, oversize towel and we went back to the apartment.
Once inside, Ethan and I had a nice long, warm playtime bath session and that he LOVED! He was so cute! He discovered that if he curled himself into a ball with me holding his hands so that his head stayed above water, he could float! This and kicking his legs experimentally in the water were his favorite activities! He also seemed fascinated with (I assumed) the change of sound when his ears were under water.
Ethan has no fear of water - even when it goes over his eyes (although he does prefer that I wipe the water away from his eyes quickly).
